Sam Altman-backed autonomous vehicle startup Glydways seeks to raise $250 million to reach a valuation of over $1 billion. It plans to make podlike vehicles that provide on-demand rides, running on dedicated two-meter-wide expressways to offer taxi-like service, avoiding congestion. The firm recently closed a $170-million funding round from investors like Suzuki Motor Corp and Khosla Ventures.

The automobile industry recorded its highest annual sales in FY26, rising 10.4% YoY to 28.27 million units, driven by a strong recovery in the second half, Financial Express reported, citing Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers' (SIAM) data. Passenger vehicle sales grew 7.9% to 4.64 million units in FY26. Additionally, two-wheeler sales increased 19.3% to 1.98 million units.

A woman allegedly under the influence of alcohol parked her car in the middle of a busy road in Hisar, Haryana, causing a traffic jam. A massive fire broke out at Chinese EV maker BYD's parking garage in Shenzhen Industrial Park on Tuesday morning. Delhi government's draft EV policy has proposed banning the addition of petrol and diesel vehicles to the existing fleets of ride aggregators and delivery service providers from January 1, 2026. However, induction of BS-VI emission standard two-wheelers will be permitted in aggregator fleets till December 31, 2026. The policy aims to reduce emissions in the capital.

The Delhi government has released its draft EV Policy 2026-2030, proposing a full exemption on road tax and registration fees for electric vehicles. However, this benefit will apply only to cars priced up to ₹30 lakh, with higher-value vehicles excluded from such exemptions. The draft also proposes a 50% exemption for strong hybrid vehicles and a separate EV fund.

Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla, which opened its maiden showroom in India in July, sold 342 units in the country in FY26, according to data from Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). The company only sells the Model Y electric SUV in India at present in two variants. Tata Motors sold over 78,000 EVs, while Mahindra & Mahindra retailed 42,271 units.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire led India's passenger car sales in March 2026 with 21,224 units, followed by Tata Punch (20,977) and Tata Nexon (19,810). Hyundai Creta ranked fourth with 17,838 units, while Maruti's Ertiga (17,072) and Wagon R (17,025) came fifth and sixth. Baleno (16,392), Brezza (16,130) and Fronx (15,540) completed top nine. Six Maruti Suzuki cars feature in top nine.
